Berlin TV Tower – the highest building in Europe open to the public

DSC_4173Built in the center of the city, during the years of the GDR (between 1965 and 1969), and advertised both as a symbol of communist power and of the soviet Berlin, the iconic Berlin Television Tower (Berliner Fernsehturm) has been a symbol of the entire city for almost 30 years. It is the highest building in Europe open to the general public (according to visitberlin.de), measuring no less than 368 metres, and it offers a superb 360° panoramic view of the city form an observation platform and a revolving restaurant.

They are both situated at over 200 meters above Berlin and accessible with a fast elevator (not counting the time waiting in line to get a ticket or to take the elevator). The tower receives over one million visitors annually from all over the world.
